Equiaffine immersions of general codimension and its transversal volume element map

With an equiaffine immersion of codimension 1 into the affine space with the natural equiaffine structure, the conormal map is associated. In this paper, for an equiaffine immersion of general codimension into the space, we shall define the map corresponding to the conormal map, which is called the transversal volume element map. And we shall investigate if, an equiaffine immersion of general codimension into the space is determined by its affine fundamental form and its transversal volume element map.     

Automated phosphoproteome analysis for cultured cancer cells by two-dimensional nanoLC-MS using a calcined titania/C18 biphasic column.

We have developed an on-line automated system for phosphoproteome analysis using titania-based phosphopeptide enrichment followed by nanoLC-MS/MS. Titania beads were prepared by calcination of commercial chromatographic titania beads at 800 degrees C to convert the crystalline structure. The obtained rutile-form titania exhibited higher selectivity in phosphopeptide enrichment than commercial titania, even in the absence of a competitive chelating reagent for non-phosphopeptides. For phosphoproteome analysis of human cervical cancer HeLa cells, tryptic digests of the cell extracts were directly injected into this on-line system, and 696 non-redundant phosphopeptides with 671 unambiguously determined phosphorylation sites, derived from 512 phosphoproteins, were successfully identified. This is the first successful application of an on-line automated phosphoproteome analysis system to complex biological samples.     

Catalytic asymmetric synthesis of descurainin via 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition of a carbonyl ylide using Rh2(R-TCPTTL)4

A catalytic asymmetric synthesis of descurainin has been achieved by incorporating an enantioselective 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition, a stereoselective alkene hydrogenation, an oxidation with Fremy’s salt and a regioselective demethylation with NbCl₅ as the key step. The 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition of a carbonyl ylide derived from tert-butyl 2-diazo-5-formyl-3-oxopetanoate with 4-hydroxy-3-methoxyphenylacetylene in the presence of dirhodium(II) tetrakis[N-tetrachlorophthaloyl-(R)-tert-leucinate], Rh₂(R-TCPTTL)₄, provided an 8-oxabicyclo[3.2.1]octane skeleton in 95% ee.     

Synthesis and magnetic properties of ALnO2 (A=Cu or Ag; Ln=rare earths) with the delafossite structure

Synthesis, structures, and magnetic properties of ternary rare earth oxides ALnO₂ (A=Cu or Ag; Ln=rare earths) have been investigated. CuLnO₂ (Ln=La, Pr, Nd, Sm, Eu) were synthesized by the direct solid state reaction of Cu₂O and Ln₂O₃, and AgLnO₂ (Ln=Tm, Yb, Lu) were obtained by the cation-exchange reaction of NaLnO₂ and AgNO₃ in a KNO₃ flux. These compounds crystallized in the delafossite-type structure with the rhombohedral 3R type (space group: R-3m). Magnetic susceptibility measurements showed that these compounds are paramagnetic down to 1.8 K. Specific heat measurements down to 0.4 K indicated that CuNdO₂ ordered antiferromagnetically at 0.8 K.     

Enantioselective Palladium(0)‐Catalyzed Nazarov‐Type Cyclization

A Pd⁰‐catalyzed asymmetric Nazarov‐type cyclization is described. The optimized ligand for the reaction incorporates a weakly coordinating pyridine ring into a TADDOL‐derived phosphoramidite (TADDOL=α,α,α,α‐tetraaryl‐1,3‐dioxolane‐4,5‐dimethanol). The reaction leads to the formation of cyclopentenones as single diastereoisomers that incorporate two contiguous asymmetric centers, one tertiary and one an all‐carbon‐atom quaternary stereocenter, in high yield and optical purity. It is noteworthy that the reaction does not require that substrates should be activated by aryl substituents.     

Ultrafast Electron Transfer Kinetics of Graphene Grown by Chemical Vapor Deposition

High electrochemical reactivity is required for various energy and sensing applications of graphene grown by chemical vapor deposition (CVD). Herein, we report that heterogeneous electron transfer can be remarkably fast at CVD‐grown graphene electrodes that are fabricated without using the conventional poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) for graphene transfer from a growth substrate. We use nanogap voltammetry based on scanning electrochemical microscopy to obtain very high standard rate constants k⁰≥25 cm s^?1 for ferrocenemethanol oxidation at polystyrene‐supported graphene. The rate constants are at least 2–3 orders of magnitude higher than those at PMMA‐transferred graphene, which demonstrates an anomalously weak dependence of electron‐transfer rates on the potential. Slow kinetics at PMMA‐transferred graphene is attributed to the presence of residual PMMA. This unprecedentedly high reactivity of PMMA‐free CVD‐grown graphene electrodes is fundamentally and practically important.     

Catalytic enantioselective intermolecular cycloaddition of diazodiketoester-derived carbonyl ylides with indoles using chiral dirhodium(II) carboxylates

The first example of enantioselective intermolecular cycloaddition of carbonyl ylides with indoles is described. The cycloaddition of five- and six-membered carbonyl ylides derived from diazodiketoesters with N-methylindoles under catalysis by dirhodium(II) tetrakis[N-tetrachlorophthaloyl-(S)-tert-leucinate], Rh(2)(S-TCPTTL)(4), gave cycloadducts in high yields and with high levels of enantioselectivity (up to 99% ee) as well as excellent exo diastereoselectivity.
